Cannabis, and CBD in particular (short for cannabidiol), is one of the hottest ingredient trends in beauty today, thanks to its powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, vitamin-packed, skin-rejuvenating, calming, analgesic, anti-acne, anti-anxiety and cellular-regulating properties. CBD is a prominent cannabinoid found in cannabis, the plant that includes both hemp and marijuana. There are over 100 different cannabinoids, and CBD is by far the most extensively studied, especially since a number of states recently legalized marijuana. The ingredient is now popping up in an ever-increasing number of categories, including skin care, personal care, makeup, and even oral care. Users do not experience a ‘high’: CBD does not contain any THC (or tetrahydrocannabinol), the psychoactive ingredient linked to marijuana’s euphoric effect.
